Update:

10 months later two of the pigeons who arrived in May 2025 are still in treatment, and a recent visit to the University Veterinary Hospital in Vila Real has finally disclosed the true nature of their condition, as well implementing a life-plan to manage these conditions, while maintaining their quality of life.

This fundraiser has been updated to manage the vet bills/costs for two pigeons: Ijsje and Florence in the period between Autumn 2025 and February 2026.

After the Summer of 2025 it became increasingly clear that these two pigeons were regressing, because they not received sufficient/correct diagnostics or care plans at the time of rescue in the Netherlands.

The University Hospital Xray costs were quite low, and the CT Scan was provided pro bono. What a relief to find real expertise at such a minimal cost too!

But the major costs have been transport to the Hospital (and other vets initially), medical supplies and assists, and especially the vet bills I incurred at Animal VIP Vets -- for Ijsje in Viseu, at my first (failed) attempt to diagnose and help her. These last bills will be added in the next update.

This fundraiser is to help crowdfund some unexpected extra vet costs here in Portugal for two new pigeons from the Netherlands.

13 disabled Dutch pigeons arrived at the sanctuary on May 22nd.

Of course they had all been vet-screened before coming to me, and were either partially or fully rehabilitated, but 2 of them clearly needed further vet treatment. One (Pippa) arrived with a foot that needed amputation and one (Dewi) with some symptoms not clarified in her medical history.

Here at the sanctuary in Portugal I don't yet have any pigeon vet or any sanctuary-supporting vet, so I needed to use an exotics clinic for pets in a city nearby. This meant that the costs were more than 3 times what they would've been back at Pigeon Rescue base in NL, so, with your help, I hope to be able to crowdfund the cost of the amputation, blood test, and 2 transport costs to the clinic.
