If you found your way here, you probably know that I lost my best friend Nana on March 5th, 2025. In an effort to save her life, Nana was hospitalized. Unfortunately, diagnostic tests showed that she had a rare form of cancer that had already spread from her spleen to her kidneys and liver and she was just too tired to fight it anymore.
Nana came to me after losing a family member in late 2022 when a California rescue group asked if I had the space in my home and in my heart to provide hospice care for a senior lab that was otherwise going to be euthanized at the Riverside County Animal Shelter. I said yes after seeing a photo of a beautiful black lab with the most soulful eyes I had ever seen.
I thought about what to name her for a long time and finally picked one from Disney's Peter Pan. The dog in the film is the caretaker of the Darling children, John, Michael, and Wendy, and they called her Nana. When I went to go pick her up and they put her in my car, they told me her name was...you guessed it....Nana. It was meant to be.
Nana's initial vet visits and bloodwork showed her to be in decent health, and she would live three more years and go on all sorts of adventures. She would even become a set dog, starring in commercials across Southern California, as well as a service dog, visiting children at The Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
Nana was hands down the best dog I have ever known and our little family is absolutely devastated.
This GoFundMe is for the purpose of paying her emergency vet bill so that I am able to keep rescuing special dogs like Nana that have nowhere else to go but everything to give.
With Love,
Moriah N. Boone
