Shortly after Thanksgiving 2023, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3B lung cancer. On Tuesday, December 12th, right before her first cancer treatment, she had a stroke at home. In the middle of the night, my dad heard banging coming from upstairs. Luckily he was awake to hear it. For her to barely have the strength to bang on the floor to get my dad’s attention was a shock. She spent a week in the hospital before being moved to a nursing rehab in National City. She will be recovering there for 100 days. In addition she will be doing chemo and radiation while she's there. While I’m away at my duty station my dad will stay by her side during her recovery at the facility and will be her full time care giver once she is released home.

My mom turned 48 in August. She takes care of my uncle and grandmother all by herself and handles the finances for our family here in the US and in the Philippines. The money we raise will help cover medical costs that insurance won't handle and support the family during this super tough time.
