Help Cover Medical & Bond Costs After Violent Police Response to Peaceful Protest
On January 11, during the peaceful ICE Out for Good demonstration in Memphis, community members gathered to honor victims of ICE violence and stand in solidarity with immigrant families. During the return portion of the march, Tennessee Highway Patrol vehicles drove into the rear of the moving crowd.
As a result of this dangerous escalation:
• A designated safety marshal was struck by a patrol vehicle and injured, requiring emergency room treatment. The out-of-pocket medical copay alone totals $700.
• One protester was arrested while attempting to keep people safe. The bond amount has not yet been set, and funds will be needed as soon as it is determined to secure their release.
This fundraiser is being created to ensure that no one is left to shoulder these costs alone for showing up to protect others and exercise their constitutional rights.
How funds will be used:
• First, to cover the $700 emergency room copay for the injured safety marshal
• Second, to cover bond costs for the person who was arrested
• Any remaining funds will be donated directly to a local community bail fund, so they can continue helping others facing unjust detention
Safety marshals are unpaid community volunteers who step forward to de-escalate situations and protect participants from harm. No one should be financially devastated for helping keep their community safe.
If you’re able to give, please know your donation will go directly toward immediate medical care, freedom from incarceration, and ongoing community support. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser also makes a meaningful difference.
Thank you for standing with our community.
