02/20/26 Update- My grandmother went home to be with the Lord Sunday February 15th. Wells Funeral Home is delegated to take care of her cremation services. Her Funeral costs stand at $900, due by this coming Monday February 23rd. Any future donations can be paid directly to the Waynesville location of Wells.
Linda's Mother Wilma Price is also currently in the hospital at Haywood Regional. She has not handled the death of her daughter well at all. Wednesday February 18th she had a nasty fall in her home that caused a pretty severe concussion. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate life at this time.
And thank you to everyone who has contributed to my grandmothers services. On behalf of all of my family, we thank you.
My grandmother, Linda Mathis, is 73 years old and a native to Haywood County. She has been my whole world for as long as I can remember. She raised me, protected me, and loved me unconditionally. In my eyes, she is my mother. She took care of me all of my life, until her body no longer allowed her to.
In 2021, as her dementia began to progress, I had to make the most difficult decision of my life. After being her primary caregiver for years, I could no longer safely care for her on my own, and she was placed into a skilled nursing facility at Maggie Valley Nursing Rehab. It broke my heart, but I wanted her to have the medical support she needed.
On Thursday, February 12, she was brought to my workplace at Haywood Regional Medical Center. When she arrived, she met the criteria for sepsis. After further testing, we learned she was in septic shock caused by a severe UTI and pneumonia. She declined rapidly within hours.
When she first arrived, she was lethargic but still able to respond. By nightfall, she was heavily sedated and could no longer speak. By Friday morning, she was placed on hospice care. As I write this, I am sitting at her bedside as she reaches the final stages of her life.
My grandmother is one of the kindest and most giving people you could ever meet. She has always put others before herself. She has a heart that loves deeply and without limits. She deserves dignity, peace, and honor — both in life and in death.
We are asking for help to cover her unexpected medical expenses and funeral costs. This all happened so quickly, and we were not financially prepared for the weight of both hospital bills and end-of-life arrangements at the same time.
If you are able to give, no matter how small, it would mean more than we can express. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping our family in your prayers.
Thank you for loving her with us. Thank you for helping us honor a woman who has given so much to everyone around her.
With love and gratitude.
