Help Cover Bullied Transgender Teen’s Medical Bill

Donation protected
Dear Friends & Family,

My name is Maia and I am starting this GoFundMe in support of my cousin, Lachlan.

Lachlan is 13 years old, attending middle school in upstate New York, and is transgender. This wonderfully intelligent, bright, creative, and kind human identifies as male, and uses the pronouns they, them, and theirs. How incredibly beautiful is it, for someone to explore all of who they are on this planet, and to be honest with the world, and at such a young age? For Lachlan to express themself, is incredibly brave and we love them for it.

Unfortunately, the children in school have not been this kind or understanding. When using the boys restroom, Lachlan was ridiculed and called names. Names that they no longer use, also referred to as a ‘dead name’. And the bullying continues from there. The level of disrespect is appalling, and the school has done nothing to reprimand those students. It is not a safe space. As you can imagine, the transition for oneself isn’t easy, and the last thing they need is to be bullied for it at school.

On October 15th, Lachlan attempted to take their own life. They were transported to a nearby ICU and put in a medically induced coma. We are thankful to say, after a few days, they were woken up successfully, and there are no signs of damage to their internal organs. The road to recovery however, will be long and difficult. They are going to be staying in the hospital for potentially weeks to come.

While the staff at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital have been absolutely spectacular, and Lachlan’s family are overwhelmingly supportive of them, this will be a very expensive stay. Lachlan’s health insurance plan will not cover all of the costs so I am asking on behalf of the family, for your help paying the costs of the medical bills.

We have decided to take a portion of the proceeds and donate them to The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ+ young people.

Thank you all for taking the time to read Lachlan’s story and hopefully support them. Please continue to share this page, we hope it makes a difference in not only Lachlan’s life but other people’s actions.

Sincerely,
Maia, Lachlan, Danielle, and family.
