On September 7, 2025 Mackenzie Chatriand and her heart horse and most beloved and trusted companion, Jackson, set out on a trail ride with 6 others when the unimaginable happened. Jackson lost his footing on a narrow trail and he and Mackenzie plummeted 200 yards down a steep cliff into the creek below. Miraculously both survived and after 2 hours getting them back to the trailhead, Mackenzie was airlifted to Bozeman Deaconess hospital while Jackson was rushed to Montana Equine Medical Center. Somehow, Mackenzie escaped serious injury with no broken bones or internal injuries, but Jackson was not as lucky and remains at the hospital at this time with a possible pelvic fracture, broken ribs, among other injuries. We are unsure of his prognosis currently, but as you can imagine the vet bills are accumulating rapidly. All funds received through this effort will go directly to Montana Equine to help defray Jackson’s emergency vet costs and continued treatment. All remaining funds will go to help defray any of Mackenzie’s medical expenses not covered by insurance. The life flight will be a huge expense not covered.
