To all we know, if we have ever met in person over the last ten years, you knew our family dog Harley. He was always happy to see our guests, loved our friends and family, and thought he knew everyone, even strangers. When Dee worked with The Hand Up Project, she would always have Harley. For years, Harley attended weekly house meetings, broke the ice at outreach events, and even helped look for the missing on days of sorrow. Honestly, Harry and Dee will never know the true number of souls Harley had helped in moments of need. He became your friend and loved you like you were his only. Everyone would meet him once and want to take him home.

With great sadness in our hearts and an emptiness that can never be filled in the same way again, at 11:40 pm Saturday, May 24th, Harley was struck by an older white van out in front of the Larch Way House while walking with Dee. The van kept going. As Dee stayed to hold Harley, Harry got the car and as carefully as possible placed Harley onto a blanket and lifted him into the car. The 24-hour vet became the longest 6-minute ride Harry and Dee will ever compare to.

The vet employees were top-notch, so to say. Grief is a hard emotion to care for. To all who were involved this night, we thank you for doing so much to try and save Harley. Harley's body had been hit square on the whole length and after x-rays, ultrasounds, and fluids, once Harley was somewhat stabilized and with pain meds, it was clear Harley had brain trauma unfixable to man. He had been in a great amount of pain and at this point, Harry and Dee made the decision to allow Harley to go, with prayers of it being with love and pain-free. Harley was never without one of either Harry or Dee every moment of this time with Harley. Dee was laying beside him when he took his last breath sometime in the early morning of May 25th, 2025.

Dee and Harry could not just leave without Harley. He is at home where he should be. If anyone would like to say goodbye.

The unfortunate part is, on already stressed to nothing means, we are now placed with a large bill that had to be paid for Harley's services. The emergency vet was very helpful and got the final costs down by half. But the rest of the costs have to be covered. Other bill money had to be paid in the upfront costs and we need your help.
