The day before Thanksgiving, we lost Nina Sable to cancer. She was my best friend for 34 years, and we were married for over 30 years. She was most proud of being the mother to our nineteen-year-old daughter, Megan. We were at her side to say goodbye when she let out her last breath. It was a heartbreaking end to a struggle that had gone by all too quickly.
Symptoms first started affecting Nina’s daily life last December. Nina had plans to produce more works of art as she had been doing intensely for most of 2024. She had set up an LLC and a website to market her work. She also had plans to travel and visit places that inspired her. She never got to carry out those plans. She was devastated by the diagnosis of cancer in March and fought it in disbelief. When the oncologist told her in April that she had less than a year to live, it was unimaginable to think she would be gone before the end of the year.
Nina was the heart of our home. She made it the warm, joyful, and colorful place where we have been a family for 26 years. We are a family because of her selfless dedication, hard work, and loving attention to every detail. Even when she was becoming more and more ill over the past eight months, she was still trying to do whatever she could to provide for the needs of her daughter.
A memorial service and celebration of Nina's life took place on January 16, 2026 in Petaluma, California with the help and participation of family and friends, some of whom came from long distances to be there. Megan and I are forever grateful to all who joined us in person that day. We also thank all who could not be there in person who expressed their love for Nina in other ways with flowers or messages of support. Thank you to all who contributed to this fundraiser. Thank you to all who shared their heartfelt memories and words of admiration and love for Nina.
