Help Cover Frida's End of Life Care Costs

On Monday, November 10, we made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Frida, our beloved companion of nearly a decade. What we had hoped was merely a pancreatitis flare-up turned out to be much more serious.

After a day of tests at her regular vet proved inconclusive, she was transferred to the Guardian Veterinary Services emergency hospital so she could get an ultrasound. At the hospital we discovered that she had become anemic and diabetic, likely the result of a recently onset auto-immune disease. She received a blood transfusion and two days of around the clock care in an attempt to stabilize her.

Sadly, on the third morning it became apparent that her condition was not improving, and the doctors were concerned that the buildup of bilirubin in her blood could lead to imminent mental impairment. At that point we made the decision to pick her up from the hospital so she could spend one last night at home with her friends and family.

The following day she passed peacefully and painlessly with her family by her side.

All in all, what turned out to be Frida's end of life care totaled more than $14,000. (Scroll down for proof of bills)

We're incredibly privileged to have been able to absorb this cost at all, and to be able to say we did everything we possibly could in the hopes that Frida could continue to live a happy and healthy life by our side. But we would be lying if we didn't acknowledge that this cost has become emotionally painful on top of being financially painful.

Most of the costs are contained in a $10,000 payment plan through Cherry. At nearly 20% interest that loan will ultimately cost more than $14,000 unless it's paid off early. All money raised will go toward making as big a dent in that plan as possible.

We know that things are tough economically for everyone, and we greatly appreciate any contribution you're able to make.

Thank you,
Blake and Rob

In Memoriam...

On Monday, November 10, with loved ones by her side, Frida McCoy Lubow (she/her), passed over the rainbow bridge to continue her journey of spreading love and mayhem into the great beyond.

Presumably, Frida was born in 2012 (approx.) in Central Texas. However, not much is known about her life prior to March 14, 2016, when she met and adopted Blake as her human care provider and friend.

She'd never dreamed that a year later she would have the great fortune of meeting Rob. Frida helped bring Blake and Rob together, and soon thereafter the three of them were as thick as thieves.

Frida was a lot of things to a lot of people: a companion, a confidant, a protector, and a constant advocate of physical boundaries (for herself).

A strong-willed lady with lots of spunk, she spent her best days diving into rushing currents, adventuring off beaten paths, and battling wolves... really.

she touched a lot of hearts throughout her life, making friends in Texas, Georgia, Oregon, and New York, where she'd eventually move to after growing weary of the Texas heat and bleak political landscape.

While she lived in the Hudson Valley for only a few years before her passing, she was so elated to have her very own house and backyard, where she would grow old and gather with the many wonderful friends she made while living in Kingston.

She will be immensely missed. May the emptiness felt by her loss be made full by the memories she helped to make in this world.
