Help Cover Drogon’s Emergency Vet Bills

Donation protected

I really hate doing this, but this is what it’s come down to, and I would do anything for my kitties.

Meet Drogon

He is my incredibly handsome 4 year old boy. 6 months ago, Drogon was diagnosed with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). At that point we started immediately managing his symptoms with a prescription diet, environmental changes, and medication. However, sadly things were not improving, and so on May 7th, I took Drog back into his vet for an exam.

As you may have guessed, the exam did not go as well as we had hoped. A genetic issue, something that both his normal vet and the ER vets said they've never seen before, combined with the FLUTD, are causing a urinary obstruction that cannot be solved with normal procedures. After attempting to remove the urinary blockage 3 times, the vet is recommending surgery.

What's the prognosis?

With surgery, the outlook is good. The surgery would fix the genetic issue, and prevent him from getting blocked like this again. Because he's otherwise young and healthy, the vet says he should bounce back pretty quick, with about a 2 week recovery period. As with all surgeries, there are always risks, but overall, the vet has said they are minimal. This would also give the FLUTD diet and medication a chance to work, thus further helping resolve the problem.

Are there other options?

Technically, yes. They managed to relieve a small portion of the blockage in the third attempt, so the other option is to continue with aggressive meds and diet. The vet said it's likely that this would just lead to a cycle of him getting blocked again, which may have bigger consequences down the line, including a higher likelihood of a bigger surgery, or death. Also he would be in a lot of pain for an extended period of time.

What will the funds cover?

The $7,000 would cover the surgery early next week ($5,500) plus overnight care at the vet hospital ($1,500). The remaining $2,500 would go towards the three initial attempts to remove the blockage, medication, and overnight care that has accrued in the past day.

I adopted Drogon when I was in a pretty dark place. I got him through a rescue as a 10 week old kitten. My depression was at an all time high, but I told that little fluff ball I would always take care of him. When I dropped out of college to get better mental health treatment, I paid to have him flown back across the country with me. Wherever I was living, I made sure he would be taken care of. He is not your typical affectionate lap cat, but he is my cat. He is my Rubber Cat, who headbumps my legs any chance he gets. He loves to flop down right in front of you, but don't you dare touch his belly. He likes to be with people, even if he's just sitting in the corner, or by your feet. His favorite blanket has "I love you to the moon and back" on it, and truer words couldn't be said.

I said it before and I'll say it again: I hate doing this. Within the past 24 hours, my savings have had a chunk taken out of them, and I'm getting to my limits. If he were an old cat, or the prognosis was bad, I wouldn't be writing this up. But here we are. The fact is, I need financial help to save my cat. Any donation is immensely appreciated. Even sharing this page is helpful. So, can you help save Drogon?
