My mom, Ingrid Ferreira Torres, must leave the United States by December 28th. We found out the Monday before Thanksgiving that her green card application was denied and that she has about 30 days to pack up the life she’s built here in the United States for over 30 years. She’ll leave behind me, Dad, and our two dogs, Teeny and Maya. She’ll leave behind the work friends she has and the community at her local church. If she doesn't leave in time, she won't qualify for future visas and will face the formal deportation process under the Trump administration.

My mom came to the U.S. on a crewmember visa in the early 1990s and has stayed here in the States to work and help support her family. Because her visa was specifically a crewmember visa, she wasn’t eligible for a green card, a fact that our lawyers regrettably missed when they took on this case. Now, she has to leave the country.

She’d have to go back to Colombia, a country she hasn’t been to in over 30 years that has changed drastically since she’s been there. As a 60-year-old woman, she’d have a lot of trouble finding work and being able to support herself. Her mom and family are in Colombia, but they don’t have a lot of money and can barely get by themselves.

Please help us. This monumental life change is unfortunately very expensive. We have to buy plane tickets, get her a more permanent place to stay, and pay legal fees. Your donation would help mom get adjusted back in Colombia and hopefully help get her back here in the United States with me and Dad.
