My name is Barbara, and I am posting this GoFundMe account for my wonderful daughter. If you know me, this is hard to ask for.
To try and make a very long story short, Debra has had health issues since she was 16 with many autoimmune disorders. This year has been tough on her and has caused her to go off work on long-term leave without pay as she is only part-time due to her disabilities.
Last February, she got a severe case of colitis that made her go septic and unresponsive in the ER. After a week-long stay, she was sent home with medications. In June, she started having some colon issues along with pain. Again, urgent care visits sent her home stating colitis.
In August, she went in for a colonoscopy and found out she had a severe rectal prolapse. Immediately, she was sent to a surgeon for surgery. While in surgery, they found she had a twisted colon and had to remove approximately 2 feet of her colon as well as repair the rectal prolapse.
After her hospital stay and release in August 2024, she started having severe lower back pain. After multiple hospital ERs, standalone ERs, and urgent cares that kept sending her home stating it was just inflammation due to the surgery, we decided to go once again to the ER on November 9th as she was in such severe pain. They were again going to send her home due to inflammation around the spine, stating it was due to the surgery (back in August).
At that point, we begged for a spinal MRI.
Findings of that MRI showed she had a severe spinal infection that had now gone to the bone, affecting the vertebrae L5, S1 in her lower back. At that point, she was immediately admitted into the hospital with major antibiotics, weeks of hospital stays, acute rehabs, and rehab hospital stays. She missed her birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas in 2024.
Debra was finally released on 12/27/2024 with rehab home health care. With that said, her Medicare does not cover almost all of the home health care meds and supplies needed that are billed weekly at $600/week. They only cover some of the nurses coming twice a week, and the physical therapy cost is yet to be seen.
These are major antibiotics to keep more bone from deteriorating. These antibiotics she has must go through January.
There are 2 separate major infused antibiotics being given around the clock through her PICC line. These antibiotics are needed to ensure the infection is gone so she is able to have the spinal surgery she needs with a vascular neurosurgeon and gastrointestinal surgeon.
With all these medical expenses, surgeries, hospital stays, rehabs, standalone ERs, and multiple ambulance transportations and medicines, she will be in medical debt.
This is why I am asking for help for her! Her husband is not able to support or be in the picture due to health issues also at this time.
If you know my daughter, she will give you the shirt off her back or the meal she is eating. She’s a loving, caring soul, a true Christian, and cannot get through this without help from friends and family. Any amount is a help.
Pictures show the weekly antibiotics, medicines, and supplies needed. Also pictured is her PICC line showing how these infusions are administered.
