Toni was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2020. By the time it was found it had already spread to her liver. She started chemo on February 17th, however, she only made it two doses before her levels dropped and they were unable to give the third dose.
On February 25th, she was transported to Salem Hospital due to some abnormal labs. Once there they found that her potassium, white blood count, and platelet levels were all critically low. They admitted her to ICU and pushed potassium through her IV and orally. That night she was up, watching TV, eating dinner, and talking to her sister. About 2 am, Tina noticed a change in her behavior.
On the 26th , Toni was almost incoherent and moaning in pain. We as a family had to make the decision to either keep with the treatment, that wasn't working, or to make her comfortable. We decided to make her comfortable.
At 6:10 pm Toni took her last breath. It was a very short, but intense battle with cancer and an even more unexpected death.
