Support Needed for Safe Housing and Essential Living Costs for My Family

Hello, my name is Courtney, and I’m reaching out from Malone, NY, where life has taken some challenging turns. I moved here from Florida, driven by the desire to create a safer and more supportive environment for my son and four of his friends (ages 18-21) who wanted to escape increasingly harsh anti-LGBTQ and specifically anti-trans policies. Along with them, my daughter also joined me here in search of stability.

These young adults are working hard to contribute, but the income they bring in is minimal. I’ve been the primary source of support for everyone, but I am now facing significant financial hardship. I’m behind on essential bills for electricity, heating, water, and property taxes, and I do not have homeowners insurance as it is too expensive. To make matters worse, a neighbor’s tree recently fell on my house and car, causing severe damage that wasn’t covered by their insurance due to being deemed an “act of God.”

As if things couldn’t get more difficult, I recently lost my job and am currently without income. Despite my ongoing efforts to find new employment, the financial strain has become overwhelming. My daughter and her boyfriend are also moving back in with me due to their own struggles. She has been dealing with health issues related to POTS, and her boyfriend just underwent surgery for Chiari malformation. Unfortunately, he lost his job because he needed to take time off for medical appointments and recovery. Now they’re unable to keep up with their rent, so they, along with his two-year-old daughter who stays on weekends, will be joining our household.

The house, already strained from so many challenges, urgently needs repairs to ensure it is safe and livable. We are facing serious issues with electrical wiring, subfloor damage, and roofing problems, all of which are beyond my current means to address.

I am humbly asking for your help to get back on our feet. We need support to cover overdue bills, catch up on property taxes, and repair the house to make it safe for everyone who depends on me. Your assistance would help create a secure and stable environment for my family and the young adults I am trying to support during these difficult times.
