Hi friends! I am reaching out to see if you’ll help me spread the Gospel to youth across the United States. My name is Courtney Varley, and I recently served as a NET Missionary from 2020-21. NET (National Evangelization Team) Ministries is a Catholic, non-profit organization that spreads the good news of the Gospel to young people across the United States. My team led both in-person and virtual retreats in over 15 states, ministering to thousands of middle and high schoolers in just 9 months.
Youth ministry has a very special place in my heart. My family did not practice the Catholic faith for most of my life, and I never heard that Jesus loves me and died on the cross for me. I quickly fell into depression and despair in middle school and throughout high school, and I turned to anything besides the Lord for comfort. I felt completely alone, unloved, and hopeless. This all changed my sophomore year of high school. I was invited to a Catholic youth group, and at first, I was completely against the idea of going. Why would I spend time at a church when I didn’t even know if I fully believed in God? While I didn’t understand it at the time, for some reason I felt a strong pull to the church, so I went to youth group for the first time, and my life was changed forever. I was met with open arms by the other students and especially by my youth minister, and I encountered the love of Christ for the first time in my life. I found something that day that I never thought I’d find, especially in a church: hope. That hope led me to a Catholic college and ultimately to NET. I wanted to share that hope with young people who, like me, may have never heard that the Lord loves them unconditionally and desires more than anything to have a personal relationship with them.
I felt the Lord’s call to return to NET for the 2021-22 year, this time serving as a supervisor for two NET teams. I am very excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store. One thing I’ve learned from this past year is that young people in the United States feel more hopeless and alone than ever, whether it be from COVID-19, political unrest, or problems within their homes and families. Students need the Lord now more than ever, and I would love to continue installing hope in those who have felt hopeless for so long.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to serve with NET unless I’m able to simultaneously pay off my student debt from my four years at Mount St. Mary’s University. Please consider donating to help fund my student loan payments. I would love for you to walk with me on this mission and help me install hope in a seemingly hopeless world.
