Help Courtney and Steven Overcome Financial Strain
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out on behalf of my friend Courtney Dewitt, her fiancé Steven, and their 2-year-old daughter, Haisley. Their lives changed dramatically on October 7, 2024, when Steven suffered a severe eye injury while working underground as a bolter. After being taken to the nearest hospital and then referred to the closest eye specialist, it was determined that he needed to be transported by ambulance to WVU Hospital in Morgantown for emergency surgery.
Since then, Steven has undergone multiple procedures—including the most recent on February 17, 2025—and now faces another surgery in the future, which could require a cornea transplant.
Steven’s impaired vision means he can no longer drive or work. Courtney has been working 12-hour days just to keep things afloat, and despite her long shifts, she still has to leave work daily to administer Steven’s eye drops—a critical part of his recovery. On top of that, she drives him to and from weekly doctor appointments, and the cost of gas has become an additional, unavoidable expense. Steven is receiving workers' compensation, but their budget was built around his full-time income.
They purchased their first home in April 2023, but between mortgage payments, car loans, insurance, and daily living costs, the financial strain has become overwhelming.
I’ve set up this GoFundMe to help ease their financial burden so they can focus on Steven’s recovery and well-being. Your generous contributions will help cover travel expenses for appointments, and essential living costs. Every donation, share, and word of encouragement means the world to Courtney and Steven during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story and for standing by them.
