Hello all, the past week in our life has been a lot when it comes to our furry babies, and the bills are spiraling out of control. We hate to ask, but we need help.
Cosmo was close to dying a week ago. We didn't know what was going on. Several vet visits, mystery diagnosis, delayed test results, and several thousand dollars later, we got the diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis, a rare fatal disease that mutates from feline COVID. Just barely in time, we paid to overnight the hard-to-get medicine that is the cure, the first of the 84-day course of treatment we will give him to save his life. His outlook is tentatively optimistic; he is improving.
Yesterday, Tilden was going down the stairs, yelped, and started limping. By this morning, he went from limping to having very little use of his rear legs. We took him to the vet, and they said he has a slipped disc in his spine, rendering his back legs paralyzed. They said we either need to get him surgery, or his quality of life will not be good and euthanasia should be considered. Tilden is a sweet, wonderful dog who just a couple of days ago was following his sick brother cat around reassuring him, and has so much more life to live. He is on his way to UC Davis Veterinary Hospital for surgery, which costs at least $15,000. We have insurance, but there's a significantly lower yearly cap. To have to choose between financial distress/ruin or a paralyzed dog seems incredibly cruel. Both Cosmo and Tilden are young and have so much more life to live.
We know everyone has their own struggles and stuff going on; we try to support others wherever we can. We humbly ask for help; every little bit will make a huge difference.
Love,
Melissa, Corbett, Rex, Tilden, Cosmo, Talulah, Matilda, and Beavis
