My son, Cory, was born on April 24th. Entering the hospital we were informed of medical expenses that we were not expecting for my c-section. 4 days later at Cory’s 1st visit with his pediatrician, we found out that Cory has Sagittal Craniosynotosis. What this means is that instead of having soft spots where his skull is open, allowing for normal growth of the brain, his skull closed up too early. While parts of it are still open, the main section from front to back of his head have closed up. This causes a slightly elongated shape to his head and could potentially keep his brain from growing and developing normally. Because of this baby Cory is having to have surgery on August 6th. In this surgery 2 cuts will be made on his head and a rectangular piece of his skull will be cut out, allowing his brain the space it needs to grow and develop normally. He will spend 1-2 days in the hospital and will then need to wear a helmet for up to a year. These helmets will need to be replaced every couple of weeks as Cory grows.
As you can imagine all of the doctor appointments with specialists, eye doctors, his pediatrician, his surgeons and his helmet doctor add up quickly. And this is on top of the expenses incurred just from having the c-section. None of these expenses were expected or planned and in 3 months have become incredibly overwhelming. We have been having to make extra trips to Orlando, which is a lot of gas. His surgery is happening during teacher pre-planning week so we will be having to make even more trips back and forth on top of food while staying at the hospital in Orlando. We are asking for prayers for safety during our trips and especially during the surgery that everything will go smoothly and Cory will come out of this being healthy and as happy as ever. We are also asking for any financial help you are able and willing to donate. Anything would be a blessing and help to relieve some of the bills that we need to get paid down or will need to pay still ahead of his surgery and helmets.
Thank you so much in advance for your prayers, love, and financial support.
Brittany, Curtis, Melody and Cory
