Hello. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know this is a difficult time of year for many. Unfortunately for me has been extremely hard and with a unforeseeable act of criminal behavior and disregard to my life its turned into a nightmare. For those of you that know me and what ive been through the past few years know its taken me a long time to get back on my feet. But i did it. Ive stayed the course. I kept getting up when i stumbled. And i thank you for your love and support. I finally managed to get out of housing assistance and into my own place, off of welfare, find a good job that i can be proud of, get my license back, and buy a car. I also was given a another chance at being a father. My daughter faith was born back in march of 2021. In so many ways ive been blessed. My hard work and commitment to getting out of the terrible lifestyle i was in has finally started to pay off. On December 16th, i stopped at the gas station on my way into work. I left my car running as it was cold and snowy. I was only in there a few minutes. When i walked outside someone was backing away with my car. Now most of you would just let it happen and call the police. Which is what i should have done. But i was watching someone take from me more then just a car. In my heart and mind it was my livelihood, a symbol of what i worked so hard for, my means to be able to provide for myself and my duaghter, and to see my family again without riding on a bus for hours and hours. So i acted in instinct. I jumped in front of the car screaming. When i did the guy put it in drive and hit the gas. I jumped up and ended up on the hood. Before i could really take into consideration what i was doing he was speeding down the road so fast now i couldn't let go. I was terrified. He reached speeds in excess of 50mph. Driving reckless and in and out of oncoming traffic. At one point he almost hit a pedestrian. He ran multiple stop signs putting not only me and my life at risk but also many others. After what seemed a eternity to me as i held on for my life screaming "Don t kill me" , "please stop the car", and of course to everyone we passed "call the police". We had traveled about ten blocks from the gas station. As we approached another vehicle and a car in the opposite lane heading towards us he decided to end it by going over the curb at still a very high speed. Bouncing off a brick retaining wall, then ran over some street signs, swiping two parked cars, all before turning hard right into a cast iron fence. At that point I let go and thought just let it happen. There was nothing i could do. Without a doubt god was there with me, and protected me from what could have been so much worse. I flew into the fence as the car spun a 180 and came back again to bounce off the fence with me in between. It was loud, pieces of the car flying off, my body spinning and tumbling about. In shock and pure adrenaline somehow i stood up and tried to take a couple steps towards the car and collapsed. The thief looked at me and took off on foot. I could not believe what had just happened to me. Several people came running to my aid. The police and ambulance arrived a few mins later. I was taken to the hospital, amazingly with just a deep laceration to my knee, some scrapes on my forehead and well here and there throughout my body. I suffered a rupture of my patella and a shattered knee cap. I went into surgery later that night to repair and clean the wound. Surgery went well and i stayed in the hospital for a few days. Due to the nature and severity of the injury in conjunction with my physically demanding job it seems i wont be able to work for some time. Several months at least. Im working with victim advocates and others to get as much relief and help as possible. I had only liability insurance and thus far will not receive any aid or compensation for my totaled car. So im asking for help. Help me through this healing journey and to help me back to work when im ready. Im happy to be alive and i am counting my blessings but im also stressed and worried about a lot too. Rent, bills, food, my injury, how to replace my car, and so on. Its gonna be a long hard few months as i recover. Thank you for reading my story. Your assistance in any way or amount will be greatly appreciated and go towards rebuilding what was taken from me by this act of disregard to other people's lives and property. Please share and pass this on to any you know or knows me that may be willing to aid us through these hard times. God bless you.
