My name is Kathleen Hodge; I am retired and living on a fixed income caring for my handicapped husband, Gary. We raised two wonderful sons that we are so proud of.
Last week, my younger son Cory Hodge, his girlfriend Lisa Thor, and our only grandson, Little Cory T. Hodge, experienced a horrible fire.
They were living with a family member of Lisa's, and there was a grease fire in the kitchen. Lisa attempted to suppress the fire but was significantly burned on her arms and hands. The fire department was able to put it out quickly, but the damage is horrific, and the house is uninhabitable.
Cory and Lisa lost all of their possessions, clothing, and the baby's toys. Nothing could be saved. Our 4-year-old grandson is autistic, non-verbal, and is so distressed by this situation. Lisa is going through treatment for 2nd and 3rd degree burns; she's strong and is recovering slowly.
Lots of challenges here with the insurance since they did not own the house, but we are hopeful things will be resolved in a few months.
We are asking for your consideration and kindness for donations to help them recover their basic needs for daily life, but also funds to cover medical expenses and find a new place to live. The upfront costs to rent a place are extremely high, and qualifying is difficult. Gary and I are not able to provide the financial help they need to get through this tragedy.
