My name is Haley, and I’m currently a 4th-year architecture major at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). I am also a proud member of the Air Force ROTC program, set to commission as an officer in the Air Force in May 2027. My dream is to serve to my fullest potential, including flying, parachuting, and excelling in the physically demanding roles I’ve worked so hard to qualify for.
Unfortunately, my eyesight has become my biggest barrier. With a prescription of -7+, I am nearing the point where I may no longer be eligible for corrective surgery if I wait too long. PRK surgery would allow me not only to function normally day to day, but also to meet the medical requirements to fly and parachute as part of my military career.
The surgery costs $5,000 and is considered “cosmetic,” meaning it is not covered by insurance. As a full-time Honors student who has made the Dean’s List every semester, I balance academics, ROTC, leadership responsibilities, work obligations, and living on my own… but the financial burden of this surgery is beyond what I can manage alone.
Earlier this year, I was selected to attend the Air Force parachute training, where I would have earned my jump wings. Sadly, I was disqualified because of my eyesight. This was heartbreaking because parachuting is not just a goal, but something I’ve dreamed about for years. Getting PRK surgery will allow me to reclaim these opportunities and continue striving for achieving my goals.
This has been a long-standing wish of mine, and I am humbly asking for your help in making it possible. Every donation, no matter the size, brings me closer to a future where my eyesight will no longer hold me back from serving, leading, and achieving my goals.
Thank you so much for supporting me on this journey.
