Help Me Heal After a Life-Changing Wrist Injury
Hi friends, family, and kind strangers,
On August 11th, during what was supposed to be a light-hearted co-ed soccer game, my life changed in an instant. Our team was already down a player and seven goals, and I would never normally put myself in danger by playing keeper in a situation like that — it simply didn’t matter if another goal went in. But in that moment, a player on the opposing team kicked the ball hard from about three feet away, straight into my hand.
The impact shattered my dominant wrist — the one I rely on for everything. Soccer and golf have always been my outlets, my stress relievers, and my way to stay connected with friends. Overnight, all of that was taken away.
The injury turned out to be far worse than a simple break. On August 22nd, I underwent major surgery. Surgeons had to put my wrist back together with eight pins and two plates, even pinning the head of my radius back on. The recovery has been painful, slow, and overwhelming.
Because it’s my dominant hand, I haven’t been able to work at either of my jobs, drive long distances, or even do basic things at home like cooking, cleaning, or taking care of myself the way I’m used to. The loss of independence and income has been crushing. What used to be my stress outlets — soccer and golf — are now impossible, and my mental health has been taking a hit as I try to stay strong through the healing process.
I’ve always prided myself on being independent and self-sufficient, so it’s very hard for me to ask for help. But right now, I truly can’t do this on my own.
I’m reaching out with humility for help to get through this period — to cover living expenses, medical bills, and recovery costs while I’m unable to work. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you’re not in a place to donate, even sharing my story means the world to me.
I can’t wait for the day I can get back on my feet, back to work, and back to the sports and life that keep me grounded. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can offer.
With gratitude,
Corinne
