Help Cori Meet Medical Needs for UK Internship
Donation protected
Hey everyone!
I am Cori Clevenger. I have been selected for a nine-month internship in the United Kingdom working with The Methodist Church. This opportunity is the result of a new partnership between Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas, and Cliff College in Calver, England that became available to Perkins students for the 2019-2020 academic year. The two schools hope to continue this partnership in the future. This is the first time a partnership like this has been an option since the 2005 London subway bombings. I am the only student selected for this year’s opportunity by both Perkins and Cliff.
There is a problem preventing me from going. I have Type 1 Diabetes, which is an auto-immune disorder preventing my pancreas from producing insulin. Without insulin, my blood sugar builds up leading to life-threatening consequences. I can’t get these through the NHS in the UK and I can’t get my request for a six-month prescription approved by my university’s insurance provider because they are transitioning to another provider August 1st. The new provider believes Britain’s NHS should cover my prescription, but they won’t because my condition is treated differently in the UK. Third-party vendors can’t ship to the UK and they can’t give me enough pumps, before I move August 14th, to last my internship without insurance approval.
The only way to ensure I have enough pumps for this internship is to buy them directly from, the manufacturer, Insulet Corporation; they are also the only ones able to ship these pumps to me while I am in the UK. My teammates and I have set up this GoFundMe to help cover the manufacturer’s cost for the duration of my internship. This will total about $4,050. The remaining money from the goal will go towards paying for an expedited religious worker visa and GoFundMe’s processing fees. This internship is important to me because it will enable me to finish my studies at Perkins and start my ministry career all while experiencing life in a different culture, but it can’t be done unless I am certain my medical needs are met. I am grateful to anyone who helps me reach this goal. Visit the page periodically for updates and to stay connected. To help get the word out, please, share the link on your Facebook timeline! Thank you.
