My brother in law, Corey and sister Phyllis are two of the best people you could ever meet. When I have had troubles in my life they have always been there for me.
Around 3 years ago Corey was diagnosed with lymphoma. At the time he had just stopped working his job in banking and got his certification to teach math. Even while he was getting treatment he tried his best to keep working. It soon became too much and he had to stop.
He has been through so many different treatments to try to rid his body of this disease. multiple rounds and types of chemo, stem cell and t cell therapies. He most recently has been receiving yet another round of chemo to again fight lymphoma since the cancer came back. These treatments have made him immunocompromised. Now with Covid, even though they knew he would have to quarintine, it is truly a matter of life and death that he stay confined to their house with no visitors. Phyllis has been working from home and caring for him throughout all of his treatments.
Through each and every treatment Corey has tried to keep a positive attitude. He has inspired me with his strength of body and spirit. When I would talk to him about what he is going through it is almost like he's trying to comfort me as oppose to the other way around.
During Corey's most recently round of chemo, he has developed CMV. This virus, while not dangerous to a healthy person, is extremely so to someone with a compromised immune system. His platelets keep falling to dangerously low levels, he had fevers, no energy and he has a hard time eating or even walking. Corey has been hospitalized for a month trying to fight this virus. When he is finally allowed to come home, Phyllis is going to need a lot of help with his care. It is hard to believe that the brother in law's that has always exercised now is a fall risk. Phyllis needs to keep working and even though she works from home, she is going to need to hire help. This is very expensive and they just don't have the money to cover his care.
If you could find it in your heart to help them out. I would be forever grateful. These are people who have helped me through the toughest time of my life and I just wish I could do the same.
