Help Corey Fight for His Life

Beschermde donatie
Our dear friend Corey has been courageously battling stage four colon cancer for nearly a year. Despite everything he and his family have endured, Corey continues to fight with strength, hope, and unwavering determination.

Recently, Corey received devastating news: he is no longer eligible for a liver transplant in Canada. However, there is still hope. We are now raising funds in the hopes that Corey can pursue life-saving care in the United States. This care may include surgical removal of a tumor, the implantation of a hepatic artery pump, and ultimately, a liver transplant.

• The cost of the hepatic artery pump alone is $60,000
• A liver transplant is estimated to cost around $200,000
• These amounts do not include travel or day-to-day living expenses.

Since his diagnosis, Corey and his wife Alicia have faced challenge after challenge. His initial colon surgery was successful, but follow-up scans showed the cancer had spread to his liver. At that time, doctors believed Corey would be a good candidate for a liver transplant. While waiting, he underwent aggressive chemotherapy, and the tumor in his liver initially responded well.

However, due to his weakened immune system, Corey was repeatedly hospitalized with infections, delaying treatment and allowing the cancer to progress. During one of those hospital stays, a scan showed several suspicious spots on his lungs. Doctors feared it was cancer — which would disqualify him from receiving a transplant in Canada.

Determined to fight, Corey and Alicia sought a second opinion in the United States, despite the overwhelming financial burden. After traveling to Boston, Corey was told that the spots of his lung could not be confirmed as cancer without a biopsy. Thankfully, the biopsy revealed it was not cancer, but rather a fungal infection — a rare and hopeful break in their journey.

But the relief was short-lived.

In early June, Corey began experiencing seizures. He is now on medication for epilepsy, but the cause of the seizures remains unclear, with scans and bloodwork providing no concrete answers.

Still optimistic, Corey had one last hurtle to overcome before being considered for a new liver. The transplant team in TO wanted to do a biopsy on the last spot outside of his liver. The results from Coreys biopsy were not what they hoped. The biopsy confirmed that the spot outside his liver is a malignant tumor in his peritoneum. This heartbreaking news means that he is no longer eligible for a transplant in Canada.

Still, Corey and Alicia refuse to give up. They are fighting like hell, all while being incredible parents to their two beautiful daughters, Pia and Alice.

This family has been through more in the past year than most endure in a lifetime. We are asking for your help. Any contribution, no matter the size, means more than you can imagine. Your support gives Corey a fighting chance to pursue treatment that could save his life.

Thank you for standing with Corey, Alicia, and their girls.

With love,
Friends of the Welsh Family
