Help Corbin Get Urgent Surgery and Recovery

On Friday, January 10th at around 8:30am, my boyfriend, Corbin got hit by a car on his motorcycle. Thankfully, it was only his left ankle and bike that took the brunt of it. He fractured his ankle (trimalleolar fracture) and his bike is looking like it’s out of commission.

We’re so lucky that it wasn’t worse and he’s ultimately okay, but finding a surgeon has been the biggest challenge for us. As of today, we’ve gone to the ER three separate times begging for a surgery and better pain management. Any pain medication he’s prescribed runs out within three days so we find ourselves running in circles, waiting in ER rooms for hours just for them to throw Norco at us and refer us to an outpatient surgeon.

We are working on finding a surgeon that preferably takes MediCal and will actually return our calls. But we’re finding that our insurance is posing as a roadblock. We’ve been told by an ER doctor that the surgeons in the ER would have to do it “out of the goodness of their hearts”. Which ultimately meant no surgery would be happening that day.

At this point, we’ve been told he needs surgery ASAP to avoid any further long term damage. It’s leading us to believe that we will have to pay out of pocket for a consultation and surgery.

Corbin hasn’t been able to work during this time and doesn’t get PTO. We’re also making a plan to replace his motorcycle so he can eventually get around, whether that be a bicycle or a car.

We have truly felt a whole range of emotions since the accident. But something we are truly blown away by is how wonderful and supportive our community has been. Our family, friends and coworkers have shown the most kindness and it’s really helping us push forward during this difficult and crazy stressful time.
