As many of you know, I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2023. I experience grand-mal seizures every month to few months, and often have multiple episodes in a single day (now as many as 3-5). While I’m working closely with my neurologist to find the right medication, I’m also raising funds to get a service dog trained to assist when I have a seizure. During these seizures, I am unconscious, often alone, and cannot function for several hours after. It has been an extremely scary and difficult few years for myself and my family as we try to navigate this new reality.
I’m fortunate to work with dogs every day, and plan to continue this passion and have always believed in the power of service animals. I’ve already identified a potential service dog, but the costs associated with purchasing, training, and equipping the dog are substantial. That’s why I’m asking for your support to help fund this life-saving animal and the additional training required.
Seizure response dogs can offer significant help, especially when it comes to overcoming the limitations of seizure detection devices. These specially trained dogs can detect seizures through changes in body movements, sounds, and physiological signals. Most of my seizures occur while I’m asleep, which makes having a seizure response dog essential. The dog could alert others to my condition and help keep me safe during an episode.
Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to me as I work toward improving my quality of life and ensuring I have the assistance I need in case of an emergency. Thank you for considering helping me on this journey. Love you all
