Thanksgiving morning we had the scare of our lives when our dear Coco (Aka Coqui) collapsed on the dining room floor.
Coco has the sweetest soul and we rescued her from the jungles of Puerto Rico where she survived sickness and starvation so she has a very strong fortitude. So we KNEW this was very serious.
Being Thanksgiving nearly all clinics were closed but we were lucky to find Guardian Veterinary Specialists, a 24-hour clinic. We rushed Coco there and hours later in a hectic pet emergency room, our baby girl was diagnosed with a life-threatening infection that would require immediate surgery within 48 hours or she would die. It also included a fee we couldn't possibly afford, to the tune of $14,000.
After hours of calling vets from New York to Connecticut, who could perform such a last-minute surgery and with the help of the incredible staff at Guardian (KC, Will, & Dr. Cohen) we had luck! We found a fantastic caring Doctor at Brook Farm Veterinary who agreed to do the life-saving operation on his lunch break!
We went home very late Thanksgiving night exhausted and raw, not exactly the holiday we had planned, but "thankful" Coco was home with us and...still alive.
By morning Coco was barely lucid, shaking, and in incredible pain but we managed to get her in good hands just in time.... and the surgery was a SUCCESS!
This was a holiday miracle, however, it came at a cost we couldn't afford and we could not have saved her without the help of dear family members who came to our rescue.
The CoCo fund will be used to help cover costs for upcoming examinations and blood work Coco will need in the coming weeks, along with required medication. Additional funds will be used to reimburse the family members who came to our aid as well as the payment of a high-interest Care Credit we had to take on-site at the veterinary to cover the outrageous costs associated with her surgery.
THANK YOU FOR ANY ASSISTANCE from COCO and our family!
*** DONATIONS of any kind are appreciated and if you are unable to help, the best help you can give is to pass on to others who may want to assist. ***
