Help us Keep Our Name: Copper Door Coffee Roasters

Hi, I'm Hannah, owner and operator of Copper Door Coffee Roasters in Denver, CO. , We were established in 2006, and I was fortunate enough to purchase the company in 2013.

Unfortunately, a restaurant on the east coast trademarked "Copper Door" before I did, despite the fact that they opened after us. We were fine as long as we didn't operate outside of the state of Colorado.

Last year, we got a huge account at a national grocery store that moved our small brand out of the state, which put us in territory of infringement. So, I started the process of trademarking Copper Door Coffee Roasters and our blend names.

I hired a wonderful and badass female trademark lawyer, and we have been working hard to secure the name and the brand I've built.

Anyone who has owned a small business knows how stressful the day-to-day can be when things are smooth, and this has definitely not been smooth. If I've learned anything during the volatility of the past few years, it's that having a safe and secure work environment is essential for our staff and our community- this includes knowing our company isn't going to be in any legal battles.

One owner of "Copper Door" trademark says we can coexist, but only if we pay him. We've come to an agreement that we can use Copper Door Coffee Roasters west of the Mississippi, but the fees are not what we'd hoped. I need your help!
