Hello,
I am a single dog mum of 3 wonderful dogs who I love more than life itself.
Coorie is my youngest, a 1 year old pointer. She hasn’t had the easiest start in life and has had ongoing medical issues since July last year. She has had persistent thrombocytopenia (low platelets) since July last year. Platelets are required to clot the blood. Coorie’s platelets have gone down to zero so she is now at risk of spontaneous haemorrhage. Alongside this, her other blood cells have all plummeted and she’s severely anaemic. She received blood transfusion yesterday but this is only a temporary measure as her bone marrow is either not producing enough blood cells or is destroying them.
She has had every diagnostic test thrown at her and has seen internal medicine specialists for a barrage of tests but they still couldn’t find the answer. After being a medical mystery for months, she tested positive for Ehrlichia, a tick borne parasite that is usually only seen in dogs that have travelled abroad as this parasite is not endemic in the UK. She was treated for Ehrlichiosis with several rounds of doxycycline (an antibiotic) to no avail.
The vets suspect that she now has the chronic form of the disease, which yields a poor prognosis. The next step would be to do a bone marrow biopsy as well as a work up by specialists 3 hours away. Due to her current state, our local vets are unable to do these procedures as it is too risky without lots of blood available and they don’t have the sophisticated tests required. However, this has been quoted at £3000-£5000 and her insurance has maxed out (£12K) and won’t renew until April so I am now paying directly for her ongoing care. To make matters worse, I have started a new job and won’t start being paid for this until end of February and I have no savings. This is just terrible timing
I am desperate to do everything I can to help my girl and find a solution. She is the sweetest, confident, most wonderful pup and anyone who meets her falls in love with her. I’d appreciate anything you can donate to help save Coorie pup.
Thank you so much in advance xXx
