Help Cooper the Corgi Get Better!

** Update (6/20/17) **

Hello all,

Quick update on Cooper's tumor biopsy results. Cooper had a benign periodontal tumor. It grew from underneath the gum. Depending on how long it took the first tumor to grow (we are estimating around 4-6 months), and if the doctor did not remove all of the tumorous tissue, it may come back in the same amount of time. The pathologist stated that it appeared the doctor did a great job and removed the tumorous tissue. If the tumor return, there is a chance that they will have to remove his tooth. However, we are keeping our fingers and paws cross and hoping for the best.

Cooper is now on his road to recovery and getting lots of love. He is now on Acana dog food to slim down & getting 2 mile walks on a daily basis. We want to thank everyone for contributing to Cooper's campaign. The additional money raised will be kept for Cooper's future medical expenses in case that the tumor returns. We are hoping in the upcoming months if the tumor does not return that we can use the extra funding from this campaign to donate to Queen's Best Stumpy Dog Rescue.

Once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for opening your heart and helping support this campaign. It is amazing to see so many strangers come together for a common cause.

Best,
Jacky, Kat, & Amy

** Update (6/10/17) **

Thank you all for taking the time to read and share Cooper's story, for the donations, and for the kind words and support. We are beyond happy to announce that we have reached our GoFundMe goal in just a few short days!

Please know that any additional funds that we may raise, including the amount raised for the auction being held until Sunday on Vala's page, will be used for the continued medical care of Cooper, if needed. While this GoFundMe and auction was set up to cover the surgery expense, my aunt has also scheduled pathology testing of the tumor, and a much needed teeth cleaning for Cooper, as this could not be done while conscious due to his aggression.

However, if the tumor is benign (fingers and paws crossed), then we will be donating the remainder of the money to Queen's Best Stumpy Dog Rescue (QBSDR) to help other low riders in need.

Thank you all again; the outpour of love and generosity from the everyone in and out of the corgi community has been inspiring to say the least. Please let us know if you would like to know any additional information on Cooper, we are more than happy to share updates on his current and future progression back to the amazing corgi we know he is.

** Update (6/9/17) **

Hello everyone,

First off, thank you for all your support. We are halfway there and I am amazed by all the love we have received! Just wanted to provide everyone with some more background information on Cooper and how this campaign started.

This Campaign is organized by 2 Corgi families that are close friends with Cooper. My dog Nugget and Amy Nord's Corgi Vala used to spend lots of time at the Costa Mesa Dog park with Cooper. That was how all of us got together. Recently, we found out that Cooper needed help and started this campaign.

Last Friday (6/2), my aunt and uncle took in Cooper as a foster dog in their home in Walnut, CA. Cooper's owner gave him up as they do not have time to properly care and train him. My aunt & uncle have rescued & cared for a Corgi who in her later years developed Degenerative Myelopathy (DM). As, I have seen how they care for their Corgi who suffered from DM, I know that Cooper is in great hands.

My aunt and uncle are both retired, but live an active lifestyle which Cooper seems to enjoy so far. Their hopes is to adopt Cooper. Unfortunately, at this time he is showing some signs of aggression (growling & staring) toward her 2 cats. Cooper has grown up with cats and did not have any issue with them prior. As such, we suspect that the growth in his mouth is causing him to behave defensively. We know Cooper as a sweet puppy, but we can tell he isn't 100% himself right now.

The growth is his mouth was discovered from Coopers owner. It was believed that the growth was an infection or abscess. However, when my aunt took him to the veterinarian on Monday (6/5) we found out that it is more likely a tumor. The surgery will help Cooper remove his tumor and run test to see if the tumor is benign.

The surgery for Cooper is schedule for Tuesday, June 13th at 9:00am.

The veterinarian information is below:
Animal Hospital of Walnut*
20670 E Carrey Road, Walnut CA 91789
(909) [phone redacted]
Dr. Karen Smolen, DMV will be doing the surgery.

*If you plan on contacting the vet to donate directly to them, please let them know it is for Cooper Kimura.

We are also fundraising money through a Corgi themed auction with the help of Amy Nord and her Corgi Vala. Please check out her Instagram linked below for some great items. All proceeds will benefit Cooper's surgery.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in helping Cooper the Corgi. He is a young, energetic Pembroke Welsh Corgi with a loving personality. Yesterday, Cooper when to the vet to check out a growth in his upper mouth which was believed to be an abscess. However, after further examination, the veterinarian believes that the growth is likely a tumor.

As he is a very young Corgi (1.5 years old), the veterinarian advised surgery to remove the growth ASAP. The surgery is estimated to cost around $2000.

Cooper is a young, loving, and energetic Corgi that brings joy to the people around him. It is tragic that this young Corgi will have to go through this, but we know that with your support and the appropriate medical care he can get better!

Any donation is greatly appriciated. Thank you for opening your heart.
