Help Cooper Receive New Hip
Meet Cooper ! He is a 2 year old Lab/Pyrenees mix that we rescued from a kill shelter when he was 8 weeks old. With all his cuteness and personality, he immediately became the love of our lives! At the age of 1, Cooper was diagnosed with double hip dysplasia. We were advised that he would need a double hip replacement in order to lead a long healthy life. He could not start the process until he turned 2 and stopped growing. Through research, we found that the procedures would be expensive due his extra large size (20000 total for procedures, appts and therapies). Some people questioned why we would put ourselves through this financial struggle. Hello!! He saved us just as we saved him. He is a member of our family and we would do the same for any being.
While waiting a year for him to turn 2, we immediately put him into physical therapy (K9 Body in Arvada - they are awesome!) to include an aquatic treadmill to help build his muscle mass to help with surgery recovery. We also tried all the other options available to help with mobility and pain just in case the diagnosis was incorrect. None of these option were successful (in fact, the joint injections actually set him back). On 04/07/21, we were able to pull money from savings and off credit cards to have the right hip replaced (CSU Vet Training Hospital - also awesome!). His surgery and recovery went well. That is him in the picture after surgery. (I think he is just happy to be going home.)
At his 8 week follow up visit, CSU students/surgeons stated that his right hip is doing great and suggested that due to the left mobility decline and increase in pain that they do the 2nd replacement surgery on 07/28/21. As we are still sending him to K9 Body for PT and aquatics as well as paying off the cards from his recent surgery, we are looking for any help we can get with this next hospital bill.
We are not a SCAM or people who just want take peoples money. We have both been employed at our jobs for 20+years and usually are the givers to people/animals in need. But, due to these procedures not being covered under any insurance, it has become an overwhelming amount overall for us. Cooper is our family . He is our laughter and our tears, our smiles and our fears. He is our world !!! We would be greatly appreciative of any amount and hopefully in the future, we can pay it forward to another animal in need. Respectfully, Mike, Dawn and Cooper Gullatte
