My name is Tiffany, and I’m raising funds on behalf of my beautiful friends, the Martini family, whose 16-year-old son Cooper is currently fighting the biggest fight of his life.

Cooper was born with congenital heart disease and has been a fighter from the very beginning. He underwent his first open-heart surgery as a baby and has already fought his way through four heart surgeries.

But nothing could have prepared his family for what happened this week.

Cooper walked into hospital for what was expected to be a straightforward two-hour procedure. During the procedure, Cooper suffered a significant haemorrhage into his right lung. Doctors identified an aneurysm and abnormal blood vessels supplying the area and worked urgently to control the bleeding. His oxygen levels became dangerously low while the team stabilised him, turning what was expected to be a two-hour procedure into seven hours.

His mum, Bronwyn, shared:

“Our world changed in an instant. He walked into surgery and came out not what was expected. He’s in the best place he can be.”

Right now, Cooper remains in intensive care. His medical team had hoped to extubate him, however he has needed more support and were unable to.

His family are beside him, waiting for their boy to wake up. This uncertainty is traumatic while trying to juggle life with other kids.

And while their whole world has stopped, life outside those hospital walls hasn’t.

Bronwyn is a nurse in the shire. Gav is a tiler and gives his time back to our local Engadine community by coaching the Under 6s Mini Dragons. Together they are raising four beautiful children.

Right now, Bronwyn and Gav need to be Mum and Dad.

They shouldn’t have to sit beside their 16-year-old son wondering when they need to return to work because the mortgage is due. They shouldn’t have to worry about bills or how they are going to keep everything running at home while their son is in intensive care.

So we want to give this family something incredibly precious: time.

Time to sit beside Cooper.

Time to be there for their other three children, whose lives have also changed overnight.

Time to process what has happened.

And when Cooper is ready, time to support him through whatever his recovery may look like.

Through Courtesy Care Services, my team and I have been helping care for their home so cleaning is one less thing this family needs to think about. But I know our community can do more.

Our goal is to raise enough to cover three months of the Martini family’s mortgage and help with essential household expenses, taking some of that financial pressure away and allowing Bronwyn and Gav to focus on what matters most Cooper and their family.
