I don't think my sister or brother-in-law would ever have imagined they would be in need of—asking for help—but their sweet boy Cooper needs us, and they're doing everything they can to give him the chance he deserves.

Their 5-year-old Golden Retriever, a joyful, loving soul who has brought so much light into their lives, was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma. In what felt like an instant punch to their gut, their world shifted. To relieve his pain and give him the best chance at more time, they made the incredibly difficult decision to amputate his front leg. Through it all, he has shown nothing but strength, resilience, and that same unwavering love he gives every single day.

As if that wasn’t enough, he also lives with megaesophagus, a condition that already requires extra care, attention, and ongoing management. They have spent countless hours and money on his care for that condition alone. Despite everything, he continues to fight—and they are right there beside him.

They are so grateful to their incredible veterinary team at @Pataskala Animal Hospital for recognizing the issue quickly and helping them act fast. Because of them, they were also able to get him into specialists at COVE and Ohio State University’s oncology team, where he will soon begin chemotherapy or radiation or both to help him continue to fight this horrible cancer. These next steps are critical in helping slow the cancer and give him more quality time.

For over ten years, they have opened their home and their love to help the lives of dogs in need. They have fostered and supported rescue efforts through organizations like Speak for the Unspoken and Golden Treasures Golden Retriever Rescue. Every dog they welcomed into their home and each one of those precious animals have been treated like family—because they are. They have always believed in giving back, in stepping up, and in doing whatever it takes for animals who need a second chance.

Now, they find themselves in a position they never expected. The cost of his surgery, ongoing care for megaesophagus, and upcoming chemotherapy treatments is more than they can manage alone. They are not people who typically ask for help, but they are humbly reaching out because their boy is worth it—every single moment, every wag of his tail, every ounce of love he gives.
