Cooper (26‑019)
Cooper is an 8‑year‑old male, who is undergoing treatment for heartworms, Lyme disease and thought to have laryngeal paralysis, had stopped eating and was not feeling well for several days. He was taken to the vet who ran some blood work and determined he needed further diagnostic testing which included an ultrasound. Cooper was immediately taken to Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital where more tests were run, which showed elevated liver values in addition to the many other medical concerns.
Along with the ultrasound, he required IV medication infusion and an overnight hospital stay for stabilization. He was prescribed various medications including an appetite stimulant to get him to eat. His appetite is slowly coming back, and he is showing some improvement.
The ultrasound revealed devastating news — Cooper has metastatic cancer. Given all of the medical challenges he has, it was determined that hospice care is the best plan of action. He has since been discharged to his foster home, where he is being kept comfortable and surrounded by love.
Despite everything he is facing, Cooper continues to show his gentle and loving spirit. His foster mom says he could be the Mayor of Round Rock and wants all the love he can get.
Aurora (26‑027)
Aurora is a 2‑year‑old female who entered our care on April 17 from the Bell County Animal Shelter where she had just finished her stray hold. She was taken to our vet partner and boarded for a couple of days over the weekend.
During her initial examination she had vomited up some small bits of plastic. While she was under anesthesia for a routine spay surgery, the veterinarian discovered some plastic that was poking out of gastrointestinal tract. Immediate surgical intervention was required to save her life. She had a gastrotomy, mid jejunal enterotomy, spay, and some material was milked from the ileocecal junction into her colon.
Following surgery, she was transported to Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital as she needed round the clock care as well as IV fluids and pain management support. She has now been released from the ER however is still in a critical window for the next couple of days as she continues to heal.
