Support Cookie’s Epic Hospital Stay
On Sunday, Dec 14, my sweet Cookie showed distress using his litter box. After a quick google search, I rushed him to my vet, who quickly diagnosed him with a blocked urethra. If not unblocked within 24 hours, it could be fatal. Unfortunately, my vet didn’t have its usual emergency / overnight services because of the pandemic. So they referred me to an emergency hospital a couple of miles away. Thankfully, they were able to unblock him before kidney damage set in. After a few nights with a catheter, he was discharged. Sadly within an hour home, he blocked back up and another race to the animal hospital again. At this point they said the only thing to stop this vicious cycle and save him would be a surgery to open up the end of his urethra. So the next day, Cookie basically got his wee-wee removed to allow for urine flow.
After a few more nights at the hospital, thankfully Cookie is now home and doing well. Now we are faced with the challenge of keeping a cat in a cage with a cone of shame for two weeks. And continuous monitoring to ensure he continues to pee on his own and heal.
Oh, and the $10,000 vet bill. Yeah. I’ll give you a second on that one.
I feel uncomfortable asking for help, but as my neighbor said “we all need help some times. And when we do, we should ask for it”
So if you have a couple bucks to go towards Cookie’s epic hospital bills and feel so inclined, he’d appreciate it (after he’s done being pissed at me for having to wear a cone). As for me, I’m eternally grateful.
Thank you.
xoxo,
Cookie and Colleen
