Help Cookie Through Her Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kayleen. I'm fundraising for my mom, Cookie, to help her and my dad pay her medical bills, copays, and cost of living. Mom lost her job, due to the pandemic in March 2020. 10 months later, she was diagnosed with Leukemia AML on January 21, 2021 in the emergency room. She was transported to a cancer center from the emergency room to begin chemotherapy right away. During her stay at the cancer center in the hospital, she contracted Covid-19. While in the hospital battling cancer AND Covid-19 she was taking care of her roommates. Anyone who knows my mom would not be surprised to know she was taking care of others in the middle of her own health challenges. She has always been a caretaker and put others before herself. She's the type of person who will spend her last penny on someone else. She saved one of her roommate's life by running in the hall and demanding help when her elderly roommate was in distress and unable to advocate for herself. Her roommate had to be rushed into surgery immediately. It was the next night mom had complications that led to her being intubated for 3 days. It was the worst days not hearing her voice, not knowing if we ever would again. My mom is a warrior. She woke up from intubation very frail and confused. She was physically unable to walk or do self care activities. After 5 long weeks, she was miraculously discharged from the hospital. It was a big day for my father, brother, sister, and me. We all came together to bring mom home and take care of her. We were so grateful. Life was very different after she came home. She came home in a wheelchair. Physical therapists, nurses, and social workers came to the house to tend to her. She worked hard to get back her strength. My mom is not able to work, so the financial stress is becoming overbearing. Since coming home on February 26, 2021, she has undergone 12 chemo treatments. This requires daily trips to the hospital for each treatment. My father has been by her side taking her to all her treatments and caring for her through it all. She is currently hospitalized again undergoing a high dose chemotherapy after findings from her last (the 5th one) bone marrow biopsy detected a cell mutation.
We are forever thankful to all those who have prayed, called, messaged, attended prayer zooms, sent her get well wishes and care packages, and who have just been here for mom and us. This has been the most challenging time in our lives. It is not comfortable to ask for financial help. But at this point, my parents who should just be able to focus on fighting the cancer, a big task and stress on its own, are losing sleep due to the added expenses dealing with her cancer. We graciously and humbly accept any donation you can give to help alleviate this stress.
