Conuco Farm is an organic farm in New Paltz, NY run by Hector Tejada since 2003. Hector has been a weekly fixture at the Fort Greene farmers market and is now seeking the community's support after a climate emergency.

When Hurricane Ida hit New York in September, 80 percent of the farm's 32 acres were flooded. The flood destroyed stored crops such as rutabagas, turnips, beets, carrots, winter squashes as well as late Summer crops such as hot peppers, cabbage, broccoli, beans and summer squash, spinach, and pac choi. 

 

 

These crops constitute a majority of the future harvest that Hector and Conuco rely on to get through the season.

 

 

Given the lost profits from the flood, Conuco Farm and Hector are under enormous financial strain. They need the help of the community that has enjoyed their produce firsthand as well as those who want to support independent, sustainable farms in the NY region or just help out a neighbor in need of assistance.

 

I (Erin) am raising money on behalf of Hector which will go 100% to the farm and making up losses. I have no stake in the farm other than being a CSA member who buys produce (it's the best!) from Conuco at the farmers market.
