Help contribute to Gigi's life saving surgery

Hi! My name is Kiara and I am a vet student at UC Davis. My 7-year-old, sassy tortie, Gigi, was just diagnosed with hepatic lipidosis and needs to undergo a life-saving surgery. Hepatic lipidosis is a disease that is common in overweight cats (I confess, she got chonky during COVID, but like same) that causes liver damage, severe weight loss, and anorexia. This disease very serious and fatal if left untreated; fortunately, it can be reversible! Gigi is in grave need of an emergency surgery to save her life. This entails the insertion of a feeding tube into her esophagus so that I can reintroduce her to food over a period of a couple months. The preliminary testing, surgery, and weeks of aggressive feeding therapy are extremely expensive and will be a lot of work for me during vet school, but to me, Gigi is worth it.

 

I am fortunate to be able to bring Gigi to UC Davis, one of the best veterinary hospitals in the world, where she is receiving top-notch care. However, being a full-time vet student at Davis, this care is quite costly. If you are able to donate any amount, however small, it would greatly aid me in funding her surgery and recovery. Gigi can't wait to go back to bird watching and sun bathing! Thank you in advance :)

update: Gigi had an emergency room visit last Friday, 5/13. She was going into shock from severe dehydration that resulted from continuous nausea and vomiting her feedings up. I updated the goal amount to reflect the cost of her ER visit, additional testing, and rehydration overnight.
