Help Us Keep Radcliffe’s Carnival Tradition Alive

Hi, I’m Amanda, and I’m proud to be the Carnival Chairperson for Radcliffe Town Community Carnival.

For over 60 years, our carnival has been part of the heartbeat of Radcliffe. Generations have grown up attending it — from children waving in the parade to parents bringing their own families years later. It’s more than just a day of entertainment. It’s tradition. It’s pride. It’s community.

I didn’t start as Chair — I started as a volunteer. Like many others, I gave my time because I believe in what this carnival means to our town. Over the years, I’ve watched it bring people together, support local businesses, and create memories that last a lifetime.

But like many community events, we’ve faced real challenges. Rising costs, changing expectations, and the need to re-engage our community meant we had to rethink how we do things.

Last year, we made a bold change. We introduced live entertainment and community bars to create a vibrant, welcoming event that encourages people to stay, socialise, and truly enjoy being part of Radcliffe again. It wasn’t just about putting on a show — it was about rebuilding a sense of togetherness.

And it worked.

We saw families stay longer. Friends reconnect. New faces join in. It reminded us exactly why this carnival matters.

However, the reality is that putting on a safe, high-quality community event comes with significant costs. Staging, security, insurance, performers, equipment hire, licences — everything has increased. As a volunteer-led organisation, we rely entirely on fundraising, sponsorship, and community support to make this happen.
