Help Connor Staton with Medical Expenses
Donation protected
On February 2nd, Connor went to the eye doctor for a normal check up where they found hemorrhaging behind both eyes. We were told that this could be caused by many things, but to get Connor into the doctor for blood work and a physical ASAP. Connor went to the clinic on Thursday morning (February 4th) and was quickly told that his blood levels were not good and therefore sent to the U of M (Fairview) for further testing. There he underwent a bone marrow biopsy and was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic Anemia is a rare disease where your bone marrow quits producing blood cells. We were then informed that Connor needs a bone marrow transplant.
Connor was able to come home for now while they are looking for a match. He is currently going to the clinic in Benson 3x a week for blood work and transfusions as needed (thank you to all of you who donate blood). It is going to be a very long road for Connor and our family.
Being pregnant, I am unable to donate to Connor. Samantha was tested and is a 50% match which they could use, but they also went to Be The Match registry and found a few 100% matches they are reaching out to. We are waiting on genetic testing to be done in hopes of narrowing down what could have caused this for Connor.
The road ahead-
There are still many unknowns but we do know that when they are ready and all prepped for the transplant Connor will head back to Fairview for Chemo and possibly radiation for about a week. From there he will receive the transplant. He will be in the hospital for 4-6 weeks depending on how he does and is allowed one person to be with him. My mom, Teri (Fragodt) Staton, will be taking off of work to be there with him. From there Connor will need to stay in the Metro (within 30 miles of the hospital) for a total of 100 days (transplant day is day 0). My parents will be renting a place to stay for this duration as Connor will need 24/7 care and daily trips to the hospital.
I am reaching out for help for Connor and our family for medical bills and other expensive that come with a diagnosis like this including the lodging that will need to be secured. Connor is currently in his second year at Alex Tech hoping to graduate in May with a degree in Mechatronics. He works for Advanced Manipulator Specialists, Inc. in Hoffman, MN; Connor will also be out of work for an unknown amount of time
If you are unable to donate money, please consider donating blood or signing up to be a donor on Be the Match Registry (https://bethematch.org/), prayers are also very much appreciated. We are very thankful for the quick action of the Benson Clinic and Eye Doctor. Thank you so much to those who have reached out to our family during this difficult time. We have faith that together we can get through this.
