Connor is my 31-year-old son with autism, and he’s been through more than his fair share of challenges. Just a few days ago, he started coughing up blood and feeling pain in his chest. I convinced him to go to the ER, and I’m so grateful he did. The doctors discovered a pulmonary embolism the size of a hand, just two inches from his heart. It was a terrifying moment—he nearly died. Connor spent three days in the hospital and now faces a long road to recovery. He has to miss at least a couple weeks of work, and he doesn’t have insurance. The bills are already piling up, and he’s been prescribed blood thinners that he’ll need for at least a couple of months. The medication is very expensive, and that’s just one piece of the puzzle. Like many of us these days, Connor lives paycheck to paycheck. The money raised here will help him pay the hospital bills, cover his cost of living, replace lost wages, and afford the medication he needs to get rid of the blood clot. I’m doing everything I can to help him, but there’s only so much I can do. Not working for a couple weeks is going to devastate him financially, and there’s no way he can afford the medication that’s so critical for his health. I’m not used to asking for help, but I’ll do whatever it takes to help my child. Connor is a good kid who is very loved by a lot of people. He hasn’t had an easy life, but I’m hoping that friends and family will come together and help him get over this hurdle. I’m very worried about his health if he’s not able to afford his medication. I love my son, and I’ll do whatever it takes.
