My neighbor’s sweet donkey, Donk Donk, is fighting for his life, and Connie at Mingo Branch Farm desperately needs help.
Donk Donk has tetanus, he’s struggling to eat and drink, and the vet says he may soon need IV fluids and hospitalization. The first 24 hours alone were quoted at $800–$2,000, with several hundred dollars per day after that. Connie would never ask for help herself, so I’m doing it for her.
I drive by Mingo Branch Farm every day, and seeing Donk Donk has always been one of the highlights of my drive. He’s such a gentle, lovable boy — the kind of animal that makes you smile just by being there. Connie takes incredible care of all her animals, and it breaks my heart to see her going through this.
Connie has had Donk Donk a little over two years. He’s about eight years old and truly part of their family. Her granddaughter rides him, and they were getting ready to train him to pull a little two-wheel cart they bought just for him. He loves kisses, loves greeting people, and his very best friend is their rooster, Blue Boy, the two of them are inseparable.
Earlier this week, Connie discovered a small cut on his head hidden under his halter. By the time she found it, he was already showing signs of his jaw locking up. She immediately removed the halter, cleaned the wound, and started medication as soon as symptoms appeared, hoping she caught it quickly enough.
The vet is cautiously hopeful. The fact that Donk Donk is still standing after seven days is a good sign but he’s still unable to eat or drink much. If the tetanus progresses and his muscles stiffen further, he will need hospitalization for IV fluids, muscle relaxers, and round-the-clock care.
I’m just trying to help a neighbor who loves her animals deeply and is doing everything she can to save Donk Donk. Anything you can donate or even sharing this, would mean the world to Connie and everyone at Mingo Branch Farm who adores this sweet boy.
