My name is Connie, and I am reaching out for help as I face one of the most difficult chapters of my life. I was diagnosed with stage 3 advanced rectal cancer, which led to 38 rounds of radiation and 9 rounds of IV chemotherapy. After these treatments, I underwent major surgery to remove my rectum and part of my colon in hopes of eliminating the cancer. Unfortunately, complications followed, and I needed a full abdominal surgery. Since then, I have been hospitalized 16 times due to further complications in my intestines, and I am now preparing for a third abdominal surgery in January.
Because of my health, I have been unable to work, and keeping up with my bills has become a real struggle. Medicaid cuts have made things even harder—I now receive only half the supplies I need for my colostomy bag, and my prescription costs have skyrocketed. I need three specific, life-saving prescriptions before my surgery: an injectable blood thinner to prevent blood clots in my lungs, a specialized inhaler to clear my lungs, and an anti-nausea medication to help manage my symptoms. I also need extra colostomy supplies to keep the area clean and reduce the risk of infection before surgery. Without these medications and supplies, I cannot have the surgery I need to survive.
When I first received my diagnosis and could no longer work, the love and support from friends, my community, and even strangers helped me keep my home and my hope. I am eternally grateful for that kindness. Now, I am reaching out again for help to literally save my life and give my little dog and me a chance at a better future after this third surgery. Thank you deeply for your generosity—it means the world to me. I promise to pay it forward whenever I can!
