Local Library Aide lost home during fire.
Our community and Greene county library system are rallying together to help Connie and her husband, Daniel, back on their feet.
The Story:
Daniel woke up on Saturday, May 30th, 2026, to smoke and heat radiating from the apartment above.
All three of the apartments had to be quickly evacuated, and the fire department called.
Luckily, everyone made it out of the house unharmed- however smoke, structural, and water damage was done in the process. Both Connie and her husband are now staying in a hotel room, while processing, recovering, and planning next steps.
We (the library staff) are rallying together as their community to support, and we are reaching out to ask for more help.
This couple has lost all their possessions, home, stability and now a suffering the affects of smoke inhalation.
Our goal is to raise enough to aid in getting them into a comfortable apartment (safety deposit, first and last month's rent) and a little extra to help replace everything they lost.
After researching apartments available in this area, we found that 1br and studio apartments throughout the county average around $900 - $950 per month.
totaling around $3,000 to cover what's needed.
