With the heaviest of hearts, and the utmost consideration for our financial and mental well-being, and the community we have found our home with - the time has come to clean up and close the doors for the last time.
As of the end of March, we will no longer be operating out of the space we have all come together to build - Focal.
Our plan from here on out is not much different than the original. We will assist the DIY and underground in any way that we can. Whether it be our own curation, or assisting you with yours, we ensure that quality will not be lost on the underground experience. In order to go about this, however, we first have to get ourselves back on a sustainable track.
For the last two and a half years, we have spent countless hours building out a versatile, all-inclusive creative space that catered to the fringe underground within the local, regional, national, and even international community. We have dabbled in just about everything art and production oriented. From live stream electronic events during a time when shows seemed like a thing of the past, to the dirtiest grind right up in your face, right here in-house. Video/photo shoots, gallery displays, dancing, charity fundraisers, community discussion, recording sessions, artists markets, the list goes on forever.
Quality sound, lighting, cameras, and internet+ were used to make that happen, among plenty of other factors that require dedication and time put into ensuring the means of production were used to their fullest extent. Unfortunately, most of said equipment cost a hell of a lot of money. Juggling the cost of equipment, utilities, overhead, and other expenses such as liability insurance and maintaining our LLC, became unsustainable and began to gravely affect our personal financial situations.
Mountains of expenses quickly began to accrue as much as any other new business, with simply nowhere near the revenue stream to stay afloat — a lot of expenses that are still in need of settlement, hanging over our heads for the foreseeable future. We are reaching out to our beloved community, to folks near and far for help with settling our outstanding debts.
We are asking for help on the first 10k of what is owed to eventually continue functioning as Focal in some capacity. While it doesn’t cover everything, it would be a crucial start not only to get things completely settled but also to help maintain our personal livelihoods during this grueling transition process.
Every dollar and every share is immensely appreciated and helps us get back on track to continue to assist and further our community. And please, come make an offer on the stuff in our space so we don't have to move it to storage (inquire within). We hope that folks can empathize with our situation, and we hope that anyone who has ever come to an event, stopped at a market, performed in our space, or is simply a supporter of the arts, will consider donating, or sharing to their local networks to help us out. We have done as much as we can to offer support for our local community, and now, we are reaching back out to ask for yours.
