My name is Jaime Hodge, and for more than a decade I have worked professionally in the comic book industry—often under the name Jaime Jameson. Creating art has always been more than a career for me; it is how I tell stories, connect with others, and make sense of the world.
Over the past several years, my life has been turned upside down by serious and ongoing health challenges.
Beginning during the COVID-19 pandemic, I developed severe medical complications and was later diagnosed as a COVID long hauler. These complications led to repeated emergency room visits, multiple hospitalizations, and long-term damage to my health. At one point, I came dangerously close to losing my life.
In addition to long-haul COVID, I have been diagnosed with chronic pleurisy, significant neuropathy, and neurological damage affecting my hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. This has required extensive, ongoing, and often painful treatments. My immune system has also been severely compromised, leaving me vulnerable to frequent medical crises.
Despite everything, I have done everything in my power to keep working.
Some treatments have required intravenous therapy through a PICC line placed in my drawing arm, making it difficult—sometimes impossible—to draw. Missing deadlines has been devastating, both financially and emotionally, for someone whose identity and livelihood are rooted in creating art. The treatments themselves are painful, exhausting, and expensive, and I also live with a severe fear of needles, which makes each procedure even more traumatic.
Over the past two years, the combination of mounting medical bills and reduced ability to work has created an overwhelming financial burden. I still require ongoing treatment, but without help, it has become increasingly difficult to afford the care I need to survive and heal.
That is why I am asking for help today.
Any donation, no matter the size, makes a real and immediate difference. Your support helps cover medical expenses, ongoing treatments, and basic living costs while I continue fighting to regain stability, health, and the ability to return fully to my work.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is incredibly helpful and deeply appreciated. Every share, message, and kind word reminds me that I am not facing this alone.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can offer. Your kindness doesn’t just help with medical bills—it helps me keep going.
