Colton was diagnosed with Double Negative Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) in March 2025. Colton's diagnosis was amended to Highly Active Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS). Colton has been hospitalized on two occasions for treatment of acute attacks/flares. His medication infusion was ruled a failure in June 2025. His medical team has been unable to find a medication to stop the ongoing flares and stop the disease's progression. Colton and his family, along with medical consultation, have chosen to seek AHSCT, a type of stem cell transplant, which requires Colton and a 24-hour round-the-clock caregiver to relocate out of state for 8 to 10 weeks of treatment, most of which occurs on an outpatient basis and requires the family to cover their own housing costs.
Cost estimates of this are a minimum of $14,000.00. Since the treatment isn't FDA approved, coverage for the actual procedure isn't guaranteed. However, due to Colton's continual flares/attacks, the family plans to proceed regardless. Last estimate of the cost of the treatment is an estimated $125,000.
