Colton Carico, my brother, has been fighting for justice since June 2021, when he was shot in the back by a Paris, Texas police officer. His journey through the legal system has been incredibly challenging. After the district court granted the officer qualified immunity, Colton’s first law firm withdrew from his case. Despite this setback, he continued to seek justice, but the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals denied his motion for an oral argument and affirmed the lower court’s decision. This led his second law firm to withdraw as well, leaving Colton to face the next steps alone.

Now, Colton is preparing to petition the Supreme Court. This is his final opportunity to have his case heard and to fight for his rights. However, navigating the Supreme Court is complex and requires specialized legal expertise. Without the right legal team, Colton may be forced to file his petition pro se, which would greatly reduce his chances of success. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward legal fees and hiring a law firm experienced in Supreme Court cases.
